Moxie Outdoor Adventures Penobscot River Rafting base is located at the Big Moose Inn and Campground. Our base is located 8-miles north of Millinocket on the Baxter State Park/Millinocket Lake Road. Take I-95 to the Medway exit and follow Rte. 157 to Millinocket.  Turn right at the old Stearns High School (big brick building on your right) and follow the signs to Baxter State Park.  We are on the right next to the North Woods Trading Post.  207-723-8391

From Southern and Northern points: Take I-95 to exit 244 (Medway/Millinocket) turn left onto Rt. 157 west. Travel 8 miles to Millinocket and continue west on Rt. 157 towards Baxter State Park. It is 8 miles to the Big Moose Inn which is on your right, next to the Northwoods Trading Post.

From Eastern points: Cross in from Canada via the Calais or Houlton border crossings. If you cross at Houlton follow the above instructions. If you cross at Calais, follow Rt. 9 to Bangor and then follow the instructions above.

From Western points: From Maine’s western mountains, take Rt. 2 to Bangor and then I-95 to exit 244 (Medway/Millinocket) turn left onto Rt. 157 west. Travel 8 miles to Millinocket and continue west on Rt. 157 towards Baxter State Park. It is 8 miles to the Big Moose Inn which is on your right, next to the Northwoods Trading Post. From the Jackman region take Rt. 201 to Bingham, then Rt. 16 to Abbot Village. From there take Rt. 6 to Millinocket. In Millinocket take Rt. 157 towards Baxter State Park. 8 miles north of Millinocket, the Big Moose Inn is nestled in the pine trees next to the Northwoods Trading Post.

What to bring for your rafting trip:

  • Bathing suit, shoes you can get wet, sweater, hat, windbreaker
  • Change of clothes, including dry footwear and towel for after the river
  • Sunscreen
  • Any medications
  • Bathing suit and towel
  • Your confirmation
